MATERIAL MATTERS:
RISD x NYC Design Week 2025

Event Production, Creative Direction & Curation

"If I were a different kind of person, I might say that this whole incident is a metaphor for life in general; things get broken, and sometimes they get repaired, and in most cases, you realize that no matter what gets damaged, life rearranges itself to compensate for your loss, sometimes wonderfully." — “A Little Life,” Hanya Yanagihara, (set on Lispenard Street.)

A show of work I curated for NYCxDesign Week, 2025, featuring 16 recent RISD Alumni, from various disciplies, now living and working in New York City. Recuperated and repaired materials are the basis of our work, in furniture, objects, and textiles. Practices such as Kintsugi, objets trouvés, visible mending, etc. have paved the way in the history of art and design, whether recognized as fine art in the gallery and museum space or downplayed as domestic. Centering repair and reclamation—acts of extension and continuation—as a fundamental ethos for creating new objects in today’s materially-congested world.
